Let me introduce myself. My name is Erik Sasse and I am a middle age father of three daughters. I am twice divorced but I have custody (That is a story for another time) I can proudly state that I have no college degrees. Now the intellectual types will "walk the plank". I write this from the perspective of a commoner with common sense. I will bring up a myriad of topics and since it is my blog naturally it will be what interests me.
Today ,the discussion will be hybrid cars. I was paging through a woman's magazine and read an article lauding the benefits of these cars. I agree that they get better mileage and they probably have less emissions than the conventional gasoline or diesel engine. The thing that rubs me the wrong way is that these cars are an example of the "feminizing" of society. If you are now feel offended, feel free to walk the plank! I cannot picture a real man driving one of these things. I want a car that sounds like it has a big American V8. To hell with the price of gas. The fact that some of those in Hollywood like Leo DiCaprio own one of these things is reason enough for me to pass them up. I bought a 1998 Crown Vic because it was big and safe and I figured a million cops and cabby's can't be wrong. I only shelled out about 3 grand and I got a rolling fortress. My girls are now safe. I've done my job. I also like the respect that the beast gets. Since it still wears the left hand spotlight bland paint job and plain Jane wheel covers, the general motoring public behaves themselves when my girls and I go motoring. I wonder if they think that I just busted up a kindergarten crime ring?
I could not justify coughing up way too much to drive around in an emasculated box just because it is "environmentally friendly". Lets get on that "environmentally friendly" crap now. Let me shout this out, I DON'T CARE ABOUT ANY ENVIRONMENT BUT THE ONE AROUND ME AND MY KIDS! I don't care about China I don't care about Europe or what France thinks. My "Importance quotient" is highest around my kids my community, my State and my Country. If you have not "walked the plank" then you must be one of those that are referred to as "closed minded an antique old fashioned or you're a liberal masochist.

It's clear that you feel very strongly about this subject and I appreciate your concern about the safety of your family. I do think, however, that we have to consider other issues that go beyond our personal desires and tastes, though this may be quite hard for us to do.

What did they call the eye glass the captain used to look out to sea? Some call it a spyglass but they had a certain name for it?
